The Daily News first reported that police said a 21-year-old BMW driver hit the man and stayed at the scene. A later Daily News report identified the pedestrian as Antonio Martin and said police accused Steven Castillo, 26, of hitting Martin in a Honda Accord, leaving before officers arrived, and causing a chain-reaction crash in which a second driver in a black BMW also hit Martin. Police charged Castillo with leaving the scene of a fatal crash.

The official crash record places the fatal crash on Jerome Avenue at 6:58 p.m. on Feb. 13, 2022, with one pedestrian killed and two sedans listed in the collision.

The Daily News first reported that police said a 21-year-old driver in a black BMW sedan hit the 60-year-old man near Featherbed Lane and stayed at the scene. In a later report, the paper said police identified the pedestrian as Antonio Martin and accused Steven Castillo of hitting him first in a Honda Accord, leaving before police arrived, and triggering a chain-reaction crash in which the BMW driver also hit Martin.

Police identified the pedestrian as Antonio Martin, 60. The Daily News reported that Martin lived at a homeless shelter in Hunts Point, about two miles from where he was killed.
