A right turn at Franklin and Lexington ended in a cyclist's death
The crash happened at 11:32 a.m. on May 1, 2023, at Franklin Avenue and Lexington Avenue in Brooklyn. The city record says the truck driver was traveling south and making a right turn, while the bicyclist was also traveling south and going straight ahead.
Gothamist reported that Adam Uster was riding south on Franklin Avenue when the driver of a 2021 Isuzu flat-bed truck hit him while turning right at Lexington Avenue. Uster was taken to New York Presbyterian, where he was pronounced dead.
Friends and family mourned Adam Uster at the corner
Gothamist reported that dozens of family members, friends and street-safety advocates gathered at Franklin and Lexington for a vigil and ghost bike installation honoring Uster, a Crown Heights resident, avid cyclist and advocate.
At the vigil, Frederique Uster-Hug described her husband as a lifelong bicyclist and called for safer streets. Friends told Gothamist that Uster encouraged others to ride and remembered him as altruistic, a great friend and a loving father.
