amNY reported that Mariano Leonardo Victoriano was riding south on Tiffany Street near Barry Street when a dump truck driver traveling the same direction turned right onto Barry Street. The article said the driver hit him, continued westbound, and left the scene.
Early press accounts did not align on every detail. Gothamist reported that police placed the crash around 5:30 a.m. and described the driver as being in a dark-colored SUV; the Daily News reported about 6:30 a.m. and described a large SUV or small truck; amNY reported around 5:30 a.m. and described a Kenworth dump truck.
The rider was taken to Lincoln Hospital, where he died.
The official record lists the person killed as a 29-year-old male bicyclist riding an e-bike. Gothamist also described the rider as a 29-year-old man, while amNY identified him as Mariano Leonardo Victoriano, a 30-year-old Longwood resident.
Gothamist, the Daily News, and amNY all reported that EMS took the rider to Lincoln Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The official vehicle record and press descriptions do not fully match.
The detailed official vehicle record lists a 2022 KW truck, categorized as a dump truck, with one licensed male driver from New Jersey. It says the truck driver was making a right turn, and that damage and impact were recorded at the right front bumper.
The official record lists the e-bike as an Arrow 10, with one male rider traveling south and going straight ahead. It records the e-bike’s left front quarter panel as the point of impact and damaged area.
Press descriptions varied: Gothamist cited police describing a dark-colored SUV, the Daily News reported a large SUV or small truck, and amNY reported a Kenworth dump truck.
Police investigated the driver’s departure from the scene.
Gothamist reported that no arrests had been made and that the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad was investigating. The Daily News reported on Aug. 9 that the driver had not been caught.
amNY reported the next day that police had identified and located the dump truck and driver based on witness descriptions, but that the operator had not been arrested or charged at publication.

The Daily News quoted Transportation Alternatives organizer Jada Yeboah saying neither Tiffany nor Barry streets had dedicated bike lanes, while amNY described Victoriano as riding in a Tiffany Street bike lane.
