Prosecutors said a speeding driver hit the Toyota
The official crash record places the collision at 12:46 a.m. on January 8, 2024, at Irving Avenue and Stockholm Street in Brooklyn. Prosecutors said Christopher Seabrook was driving a Kia Sportage south on Irving Avenue at a high rate of speed when he hit a Toyota Yaris traveling through the intersection on Stockholm Street.
The force of the collision sent the Toyota into multiple parked vehicles, prosecutors said. Police initially said the Kia driver and passengers left on foot after the crash.
Hayden Wallace was riding in the rear seat
Prosecutors identified the person killed as 29-year-old Hayden Wallace, who was riding in the right rear passenger seat of the Toyota. The official record also lists the person killed as a 29-year-old male passenger in that seating position.
The Toyota’s three other occupants were injured. Prosecutors said the surviving victims suffered severe injuries, including fractures, internal injuries and organ damage that required surgeries and long hospital stays.

Seabrook was arrested more than a year later
Police arrested Seabrook in February 2025 after an investigation. Prosecutors later said surveillance video tracked him walking to a nearby smoke shop after the collision.
In 2026, prosecutors said Seabrook was sentenced to up to six years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault and leaving the scene of an incident without reporting. Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said Seabrook “fled the scene instead of helping the victims he left behind.”
Wallace’s family described a life newly taking root in Brooklyn
The Daily News reported that Wallace had recently moved to Brooklyn from Texas and had a job as a gate agent for American Airlines at Kennedy Airport. His aunt Kippy Perkins said he had texted a friend that night: “I'm having such a good time, and I met some new people.”
Wallace’s mother, Audri Cannon, traveled from Texas for Seabrook’s arraignment. “I just felt that I wanted to see who killed my son,” she told the Daily News.
The Toyota driver also faced an unlicensed-driving charge
Police said Jorge Sanchezde Lozada Haiek was driving the Toyota Yaris east on Stockholm Street and was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police also arrested him on an aggravated unlicensed operation charge, and the official vehicle record lists the Toyota driver as unlicensed.
