The Daily News reported that Irizarry lived in East Flatbush. A witness, Xochitl Mejia, told the Daily News that Irizarry had been drinking and rough-housing with a friend before he fell into the driver's path. Mejia said, “He pushed his friend just as the truck was coming,” and added, “As he fell, his friend tried to grab him and pull him back.”

After the crash

ABC7 reported that officers responded just before 2:30 p.m. and that Irizarry was pronounced dead at the scene. The outlet also reported that no arrests had been made and that the investigation was ongoing.
