The man who died was identified as Leony Salcedo-Chevalier.

Police identified the pedestrian as Leony Salcedo-Chevalier, 34, of Perth Amboy, N.J. EMS took him to Richmond University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The Daily News quoted Justine Medina, an Amazon warehouse associate, writing that Salcedo-Chevalier had gone in for a shift and had two daughters. Company officials told the Daily News that Salcedo-Chevalier and the driver were workers for a freight company contracted with the warehouse.

The public record leaves the pedestrian's movement unclear.

The city crash record attributed a pedestrian error or confusion factor and categorized the pedestrian's action as other actions in the roadway. The reviewed news reports did not describe what Salcedo-Chevalier was doing before the driver backed up.

Police said the driver remained at the scene.
