Driver Charged After Midtown Crash Kills Wenne Alton Davis

At 8:54 p.m. on Dec. 8, 2025, police said MD Abdul Shomuz turned a Cadillac SUV left at Broadway and West 53rd Street and hit Wendy Davis, a 60-year-old pedestrian crossing with the signal; he was later charged with failure to yield.

Gothamist reported that police identified the driver as MD Abdul Shomuz and said he hit Wendy Davis while turning left from West 53rd Street onto Broadway. Davis sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai West.

Wendy Davis was an actor and Queens resident

News reports identified the pedestrian as Wendy Davis, who performed as Wenne Alton Davis and lived in Forest Hills. Reports said she appeared in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and also had credits in New Amsterdam and Blindspot.

The official record lists failure to yield

The city crash record identifies failure to yield right-of-way as the contributing factor for the driver and lists the SUV’s pre-crash movement as making a left turn. Gothamist reported that police said Davis had the right of way when the driver hit her.

Police later charged the driver

Initial reports said the driver stayed at the scene and faced no immediate charges. In March 2026, Gothamist reported that police said Shomuz turned himself in and was charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian; the Manhattan district attorney’s office said police issued him a desk appearance ticket.
