A late-night crash in a NYCHA parking lot

The official record says one pedestrian was killed at 2:24 a.m. on Feb. 8, 2026, at 645 Westchester Ave. in the Bronx. Police told reporters that a driver in an SUV hit the 27-year-old man inside a parking lot at the St. Mary's Park NYCHA development and then left the scene.

Medics took the man to Lincoln Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The official pedestrian record places him away from an intersection and outside the roadway.

Neighbors identified the man and mourned him

News 12 identified the pedestrian as Marcus Mclaughlin, 27, and described him as a Melrose father of three. The station reported that a memorial with pictures, candles and balloons grew in the lobby of the St. Mary's Parks Houses after his death.

One neighbor named Barbara told News 12, "That really took a lot from me." Another neighbor named Anthony said, "It's hard not to be affected. It's hard not to be concerned because just like him, there's a lot of youth out here."

Reports differed on the SUV's color

The official vehicle record lists a 2011 Nissan station wagon or SUV, traveling west and backing, with impact and damage recorded at the right front quarter panel. amNY described the SUV as gray, while News 12 said surveillance video showed a black SUV leaving the parking lot at the time neighbors called police.

The official crash record lists driver inattention or distraction as a contributing factor. Police accounts reported by the Daily News and amNY said the driver did not stay at the scene, and both outlets reported that no arrests had been made in the immediate aftermath.

Police sought tips after the hit-and-run
