Cement-Truck Driver Kills Cyclist on 16th Avenue

A 68-year-old cement-truck driver hit 53-year-old cyclist Edwin Delgado near 16th Avenue and 49th Street in Brooklyn shortly before 4 p.m. on March 11, 2026, and medics took Delgado to Maimonides Medical Center, where he died.

Advocates pointed to missing bike protection in Borough Park

Transportation Alternatives called for protected bicycle infrastructure after Delgado’s death, saying, "In Borough Park, where Edwin was killed, there is not a single protected bike lane." Streetsblog reported that Brooklyn Community Board 12 had been designated a Bicycle Priority District in 2017 but still had no protected or painted bike lanes.
