Police told the Daily News that a 48-year-old man driving a Toyota Highlander east on St. Marks Avenue hit a Hyundai Palisade traveling north on Franklin Avenue, and the Hyundai ended up over the curb, where the pedestrian was fatally injured before a parked Honda was hit. The crash happened near St. Marks Avenue and Franklin Avenue in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Hoodline reported that traffic backed up for blocks as emergency crews and detectives responded and shut down lanes.
A neighbor and a firefighter tried to help
Lakeysha Smith, who lives nearby, told the Daily News she saw the injured man, called 911 and pleaded for help. She said a firefighter from her building performed CPR until an ambulance arrived. Medics took the pedestrian to Kings County Hospital, where he died.
Police said both drivers remained at the scene and were not hurt. Reports said no arrests had been made as detectives continued investigating.
Reports do not agree on the first movements
The Daily News account attributed to police said the Toyota driver was heading east on St. Marks Avenue and hit the Hyundai traveling north on Franklin Avenue. Hoodline reported a different account, saying the Hyundai driver and Toyota driver were both heading south on Franklin Avenue. News 12 reported that sources claimed the Hyundai driver ran a red light.
