Police told reporters that Meyers was riding north on Amsterdam Avenue at about 10:35 a.m. on July 30, 2026, while a 34-year-old man driving a Tesla traveled west on West 60th Street. The driver hit Meyers at the intersection, according to those reports.
Police who responded said the collision threw Meyers onto the roadway, where she suffered severe head and body trauma. EMS took her to Mount Sinai Morningside, where she was pronounced dead.
The intersection sits among schools, housing and Lincoln Center institutions
West Side Spirit described Amsterdam Avenue and West 60th Street as a well-traveled Upper West Side intersection. The outlet reported that Amsterdam Avenue and West 60th Street are one-way streets in the directions Meyers and the Tesla driver were traveling.
The same reporting identified P.S. 191, the Encore apartment building, Fordham University at Lincoln Center and the Concerto apartments as landmarks on the four corners of the intersection.
Doreen Meyers was a Hell's Kitchen resident
West Side Spirit identified the rider as Doreen Meyers, 49, of Hell's Kitchen, and later described her as a former Peace Corps volunteer and dedicated marathoner.
The outlet reported that an Echovita memorial notice listed Meyers's birth date as December 16, 1976, and said funeral events were held in Lynbrook and Valley Stream in early August.

Meyers was riding a stand-up electric scooter, according to police accounts reported by the Daily News and West Side Spirit. West Side Spirit reported that the other driver was operating a black 2023 Tesla electric car.
