Reports differed on the victim's age
Police had not released the man's identity in the reviewed reports. Early police accounts reported by the Daily News and Gothamist described him as a man in his 50s, while News12 later reported, citing police, that he was 38.
Police identified a BMW driver and an NYPD driver
News12 reported that police identified the BMW driver as Luis Torres, of Queens, and said he was traveling east in a white BMW X5 when he hit the man and did not stay at the scene. Earlier reports described the vehicle as a white BMW SUV.
The second driver was in a marked NYPD vehicle. The Daily News identified it as an NYPD Strategic Response Group SUV, and Gothamist reported police said it was traveling about 12 mph when the driver hit the man.
A later report said Torres was arrested
On the day of the crash, Gothamist reported that police had made no arrests and that the investigation was ongoing. News12 later reported that Luis Torres had been arrested and charged with attempted murder, attempted assault and two counts of assault.
